grizzly bear, it melts my heart

If I am completely honest with myself, Grizzly Bear isn't the most likable band (maybe just to me) with their reference obscurity, populist a capella, and the pretension drips. something about that lead singer's off a little. but then they gain credibility/relatability by blogging about songs and bands they like, get in trouble with the Web Sheriff (WS truly is a parasite) and on stage Grizzly Bear consistently delivers heart melting, hypnotic indie antifolk. so when they release an album named after an obscure small island in Massachusetts, i get nervous, if only for their sake (yellow house backlash?). "veckatimest" was recorded and promptly leaked onto the internet not too long ago, and i cannot hide that i am crazy for this album.

to have it leak so early (it is set to officially release on may 26) is suspicious as it couldnt possibly have been sent out for music review yet. encoded in 128kbps, a mole in the catskills (where it was recorded) must have ripped and released it into the wild. the grizzly bears appear to be only slightly disappointed and explain that they wish a higher quality version of the album had leaked! their embrace of pre-release buzz (or resignation to it) is kind of nice to hear, they accept what any reasonable band should know- buzz is good, that the money's in the show and the hipster vinyl presses, and if youve made a wonderful album things will work out. ive bought my ticket and pre-ordered my LP.

and another track:
